HKUST-NEU Webinar: Recent Advances in Global Cell Gene Therapy Development
The impact of cell gene therapy has grown significantly in recent years for many disease treatments and patient cares. It is important to understand its origin, current practices, and future growth globally; as the technology is being applied worldwide. Thus far, we have assembled a panel of international experts in this field, who can elaborate the beginning of this technology, current biomanufacturing practices, new commercial products, and the global regulatory guidance for this industry. We trust this international expert panel discussion will advance the technology development and its applications. The webinar will be the outcome of an international academic collaboration along with the participation of biopharmaceutical professional societies.

Abstract
Led by Dr. Dennis Liotta, the Liotta Research Group (LRG) stands as a dynamic medicinal chemistry organization within Emory University. This presentation commences with an overview of Dr. Liotta's remarkable achievements in the field of antiviral research. The initial segment will delve into the success stories of three groundbreaking drugs developed by Emory and its spinoffs, addressing critical public health emergencies such as the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the HCV challenge, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, the discussion will shift focus to illuminate the LRG's recent strides in drug discovery across diverse therapeutic domains, with particular emphasis on advancements in oncology and neurological diseases. Throughout the presentation, Dr. Liotta will provide insights into the nuances of drug discovery and development within an academic setting. He will offer a unique perspective shaped by his extensive experience in reshaping the landscape of academic drug discovery at Emory.
